Many of you have heard about this documentary by Rupert Isaacson. The Horse Boy follows one Texas couple and their autistic son as they trek on horseback through Outer Mongolia in a desperate attempt to treat his condition with Shamanic healing.

I recently received a phone call from a promoter for the film, informing me that the opening will be September 18 at the Arbor Cinemas at Great Hills 8, 9828 Great Hills Trail Suite 800. She wanted me to know and pass on to everyone the opening date and location. It will open in New York September 30 and nationally throughout the Fall.

From the flyer, which you can download from my website: "The Horse Boy is part travel adventure, part insight into shamanic tradition and part intimate look at the autistic mind. In telling one family’s extraordinary story, the film gives voice to the thousands who display amazing courage and creativity everyday in the battle against this mysterious and heartbreaking epidemic. The filmic companion to Isaacson’s best-selling book of the same name and a festival favorite, this ravishing documentary odyssey gives insight into how, in life’s darkest moments, one can find the gateway to joy and wonder."

I met Rupert in 2004 when he attended a TranceDance at NiaSpace, during the release of his previous book, The Healing Land. I found him to be very genuine. His work with the Bushmen of the Kalahari desert was very moving.

I'm sure the film and The Horse Boy book will be equally inspiring!

Ru, Rowan & I rode our horses together around this area where we live for almost a year. Ru is a devoted father and a fascinating individual. He's also a good horseman who really cares about the horse. He's an adventurer & journalist who is going to Japan soon with a friend/former client of mine to work with parents of autistic children there. Can't wait to see his film & hope I will get to reconnect again to them both soon.

I saw this movie at the "Docs in Progress" Austin Film Society's filmmaker level membership and I thought the film was just incredible. I LOVED it.
